North Texas property taxes
Property taxes in North Texas, city by city.
Texas has no state income tax, so your property tax bill matters more here. Compare combined 2025 rates across 22 cities before you choose where to buy.
What makes up your tax bill
A Texas property tax bill is the sum of every taxing unit on the address: the city, the county, the school district, sometimes a college or hospital district, and in many newer communities a municipal utility district (MUD) tax or a public improvement district (PID) assessment. Each one sets its own rate per $100 of taxable value every year.
That is why two homes at the same price can carry very different payments. A home inside a MUD can pay a full extra percent or more; in McKinney, McKinney MUD No. 1 alone was 0.98475 per $100 for 2025. Celina lists 31 public improvement districts.
In November 2025 Texas voters approved Proposition 13, raising the school district homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000. If the home is your primary residence, file your homestead exemption with the county appraisal district the year you move in.
