Why Trophy Club

Denton County (small part in Tarrant County)

Trophy Club is a town of about 13,695 people (July 2025 Census estimate), mostly in Denton County with a sliver in Tarrant County, on the southwestern edge of Grapevine Lake along SH 114. It began in 1973 as a housing development around a country club whose course is credited to Ben Hogan, and it incorporated in 1985. The Census puts owner occupancy at 88.2%, the median owner-occupied value at $675,100, the median household income at $201,054 and the mean commute at 24.7 minutes (ACS 2020-2024).

The lesson in Trophy Club is to look past the city rate to every line on the tax bill. Most of the town is in Northwest ISD, but water, wastewater and fire service come through Trophy Club Municipal Utility District No. 1, which levies its own tax, and the Tarrant County side pays a much higher county rate than the Denton County side. Pull the actual bill for any home you are considering, because two houses at the same price can carry noticeably different carrying costs.

Property taxes

For tax year 2025 a Trophy Club home in Denton County paid about 1.68% combined (town 0.412864, Northwest ISD 1.0841, Denton County 0.185938 per $100), and about 1.96% on the Tarrant County side, before the separate MUD tax. On a $1.5 million home in Denton County that is roughly $25,200 a year, or about $2,104 a month, before the state's $140,000 school homestead exemption and the town's 1% homestead exemption. Settling in to Trophy Club

Water and trash

Trophy Club Municipal Utility District No. 1 provides water and wastewater service; start an account through its Start/Stop Service page or at 682-831-4600. Community Waste Disposal has collected trash and recycling for the town since June 2025, billed on the water bill, with trash twice a week and recycling once a week.[14]

Homestead exemption

Homestead exemptions are filed with the Denton Central Appraisal District using Form 50-114 (homes on the small Tarrant County side file with the Tarrant Appraisal District). The general deadline is April 30 of the tax year, and late applications are allowed up to two years after the deadline.[16]

Schools

Northwest ISD enrolls new students through its Register and Enroll page, and its attendance boundaries page shows which campuses serve an address. A very small part of town is in Carroll ISD, so confirm the district first.[18]

Car registration and license

Register your vehicle with the Denton County Tax Assessor-Collector, which has six office locations including the main office at 1505 E. McKinney Street, Denton. New residents have 30 days after moving to register a vehicle in Texas and should get a Texas driver license from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) within 90 days; DPS asks that your vehicles be registered first.[20]

From Albert

Before you buy or sell

Buying here

Request the full tax bill, including Trophy Club MUD No. 1, and confirm whether the home is on the Denton or Tarrant County side, because the county rate alone differs by about 28 cents per $100. If you fly often, Trophy Club's position on SH 114 puts DFW Airport roughly 15 to 20 minutes away off-peak, which is hard to match at this price point.

Selling here

New luxury product in Trophy Club, like the Beldonia Court townhomes at $1.4 million to $1.8 million and the Triple Crown Estates lots, sets a high bar for finishes, so an older golf-course home needs to win on lot, view and condition. Buyers here commute to DFW Airport and Alliance and will pay for move-in ready, so address roof age, HVAC, windows and dated kitchens before listing. Have your tax bill, including the MUD line, ready for buyers, since they will ask.
