The part of Dallas between LBJ Freeway and the Bush Turnpike, and the only part of the city that spans three counties.
Inside Far North Dallas
Far North Dallas is the area of the city north of LBJ Freeway (I-635) and south of the President George Bush Turnpike, with the Dallas North Tollway running through the middle. Most of it was built in the late 20th century, and it holds dozens of subdivisions, from Prestonwood and Bent Tree to Highlands North and Preston Trail, plus condos and townhomes near the Tollway. It fits buyers who want a Dallas address with quick access to Addison, Plano, Richardson and the Legacy and Galatyn job centers, and DART's Silver Line, which opened October 25, 2025, now runs across the north edge.
The lesson here is that the county line decides your school district and your tax bill. The Dallas County portion is mostly Richardson ISD, the Collin County portion is Plano ISD, and the Denton County portion is Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, so two homes a mile apart can have different schools and different tax rates. When I search here, I filter by district first, then compare total tax and HOA costs, so the monthly payment you plan for is the real one.

Far North Dallas runs from LBJ Freeway (I-635) north to the President George Bush Turnpike, with Addison and Carrollton to the west and Richardson and Plano to the east and north.
For tax year 2025, a Dallas County address in Richardson ISD paid about 2.34% combined before exemptions, while a Dallas County address in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD was about 2.18% (Dallas County Tax Office rates). Collin and Denton County sections use different county rates, so I pull the exact taxing entities for each address.
