Why your exit matters more than your city
Most Frisco commutes run on two toll roads: the Dallas North Tollway (DNT), which runs north and south through the middle of the city, and the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH 121), which runs along Frisco's south edge toward DFW Airport to the west and US 75 to the east. Off-peak, a drive from Frisco to Legacy West in Plano takes about 15 to 20 minutes, to downtown Dallas about 30 to 35 minutes, and to DFW Airport about 25 to 30 minutes. Rush hour can add a lot to each.
NTTA does not charge a flat toll. Each gantry has its own price, so a home near Main Street pays less to reach Legacy than a home near Eldorado Parkway, even though both are in Frisco. That is the lesson of this page: when you compare homes, compare the commute from that exact neighborhood, including its tolls.
The roads most Frisco drivers use
The main north and south route from Frisco to Legacy, Addison and downtown Dallas. NTTA added a fourth lane in each direction between SH 121 and US 380 in Frisco, opened to traffic in August 2025.
Runs 26 miles from Business 121 near the Dallas and Denton county line to US 75, per NTTA. It is the usual route toward DFW Airport and Lewisville to the west, and McKinney and Allen to the east.
A free, signal-controlled alternative that parallels the tollway through Frisco and Plano. It costs nothing in tolls but usually takes longer at peak times.
Frisco's northern edge and the east and west route toward Denton, Prosper and McKinney. Several segments are being widened or planned; see the projects below.
Frisco to Legacy West: 15 to 20 minutes. To downtown Dallas: 30 to 35 minutes. To DFW Airport: 25 to 30 minutes. To The Star: 5 to 15 minutes. Times vary by neighborhood, so drive your route at your hour.
What common Frisco trips cost with a TollTag
How tolls are billed and what a month costs
The TollTag is free with no monthly fee. You prepay a balance ($10 or $20 for one vehicle, or $40 for up to three) that refills automatically. It also works on toll roads across Texas and in Oklahoma, Kansas and most of Florida and Colorado, per NTTA.
Without a TollTag, NTTA photographs your plate and mails a bill. NTTA says ZipCash customers pay twice as much, and if a TollTag account runs negative, tolls are billed at the higher ZipCash rate.
At 21 workdays and a round trip each day, Eldorado to Legacy costs about $106 a month with a TollTag and $213 with ZipCash. Eldorado to the downtown Dallas end costs about $284 with a TollTag and $567 with ZipCash. Main Street to Legacy runs about $58 a month with a TollTag.
The current rate tables run from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027. NTTA says rates adjust every other year by 2.75%, compounded, in odd-numbered years, and its board reviews whether to continue that schedule during each annual budget.
Projects underway and their dates
NTTA is extending the tollway main lanes from US 380 north to FM 428 in Celina, with opening expected in late 2027. All bridge decks from US 380 to Light Farms Way are complete. Phase 4B to the Grayson County line has no opening date yet.
NTTA is repairing and resurfacing DNT bridges over Harry Hines Boulevard, Forest Lane and Lovers Lane from October to December 2026, using two-lane closures each way. Expect delays on downtown-bound trips.
West of Frisco, the Denton County segment from Loop 288 to the Collin County line added overpasses and was expected to wrap up in April 2026, per Community Impact. TxDOT's plan for 5.9 miles from Teel Parkway to west of Lakewood Drive would rebuild US 380 as a six-lane divided highway with frontage roads; the public hearing was held Feb. 23, 2023, and Community Impact reported the Collin County segment had no start date while funding was identified.
Community Impact listed (Oct 1, 2026): PGA Parkway to six divided lanes from Preston to Coit, late 2024 to fall 2026; Lebanon Road to six lanes between FM 423 and Todd Drive, fall 2025 to late 2027; King Road third and fourth lanes from Rose Lane to Witt Road, late 2025 to mid 2027; Teel Parkway to four divided lanes, mid 2025 to early 2027.
Transit options in and near Frisco
Frisco partners with DCTA on GoZone, booked in an app for $3 to $5 per ride, weekdays 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The zone covers about a third of the city, bounded by Eldorado Parkway, Hillcrest Road, Main Street and SH 121, and FM 423. Community Impact reported the most visited destination in its first months was the Northwest Plano Park and Ride.
A free downtown shuttle pilot in the Rail District launched in June 2026, running Friday through Sunday, per the City of Frisco.
Frisco has no rail station inside the city. The nearest DART options are in Plano, including the Silver Line, which opened Oct. 25, 2025 with stations at 12th Street and Shiloh Road and a direct ride to DFW Airport.
